Autumn

Landscape through a window

As I gazed out the window from my picturesque window seat view a few weeks ago, it struck me how autumn is fading. I did not want it to leave but the leaves have fallen.

Upon returning from our 2-week vacation, my husband drew my attention to our limp wildflower arrangement while claiming, “You should get a picture of this.”

“Why?” I questioned

“So you can do a drawing of them and because they represent letting go of the past knowing more flowers will come.”

So I took the picture but did not agree to do a drawing of the dead flowers. Then, I realized and appreciated the beauty they had added to our table and our entranceway. We had such fun thickly scattering tons of wildflower seed, caring for them—weeding, watering, admiring —waking up to hurry outside to witness the latest blossoms.

Those of us who live in the valley claim to have the most gorgeous autumns. Entering Ogden Canyon has been breathtaking from autumn’s first color bursts with the vibrant shades surrounding the windy road we regularly travel.

Ok, I will surrender and accept the fading autumn, relish its memory, and appreciate the flowers unconditionally. I will replace these with pumpkin, poinsettias, birthday roses, Mother’s Day flower arrangements, spring blossoms, and once again, the welcomed wildflowers.
