Desire to Blossom

Green plants on a tiny flower pot

This picture may not excite the general observer. Yet, to me, my one-blossomed succulent plant represents exactly what I am teaching.

Sometimes where we are presently planted, is not the most ideally nourishing environment where we would flourish and freely bloom. Yet, the plant’s spirit is determined to produce something of hopeful beauty as a sample of what is ahead.

Likewise, the human spirit is amazingly resilient and one can continue to blossom in small, less obvious ways. Something in me loves saving struggling plants. At times stores will sell me a bunch of them for very little thinking they will die. We had lots of tomatoes this year from 5 such plants that were brown when I tucked them into their new composted soil.

I was having a challenging day when I spotted the little flower and it brought me out of a frustrated mood. I accept responsibility for neglecting to water it regularly and for seldom fertilizing it—almost gave it up for dead a few months ago. But, I placed it in a sunnier spot where it would be more visible and voila, it is growing and has now officially blossomed.
