Tenacity

Old woman playin tennis

My posts will often focus on blossoming qualities and those who blossom under any circumstances.

Jody is my best example of tenacity as defined by Webster: mental or moral strength to resist opposition, danger, or hardship.

She has the COURAGE, firmness of mind, and will in the face of extreme difficulty and is resolved to overcome her handicap. She had mentioned her dedication to playing tennis in spite of the crippling effects of a collapsing spine and constant arthritic pain. But it wasn’t until I begged her to let me observe her tennis lesson that I understood her accomplishment met with such necessary fortitude and resilience.

Her powerful spirit to hold her own tennis position of being an incredible rival to younger players was an example of how to keep up one’s morale even though opposed or threatened. She did not miss hitting a ball.

Her spirit, threatened by incredible trials and losses was unbroken as she moved gracefully across the court determined to achieve her love of challenge and movement as she rehearsed for the upcoming competition.

The resolution of this strong and capable woman is an example of her persistence and unwillingness to accept defeat.

Jody sleeps in a recliner, eats the purest foods, and continues to mindfully manage her existence. She a another, grandmother, artist, and music lover—with an entire wall of shelved CDs, a regular tennis player, and a true winner in my estimation. I shall never forget witnessing her strength that day on the tennis court in British Columbia, Canada.
